Hills and vales, a bustling town - Thodupuzha which formed part of the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom is a blend of modern with the present. Temples, mosques and old churches dot the landscape. Thodupuzha boasts of a rich culture. There are relics which prove that Buddhist and Jain religions have left a mark in this city.

The church at Muthalakodam about 4kms away from Thodupuzha is believed to date back to the 13th century. When the state was formed, Thodupuzha was part of Ernakulam district. In 1972, Thodupuzha was made part of the Idukki District.

Thodupuzha was for ever an economy driven by agriculture, business and small industries. Rubber, pineapple, coconut, pepper, cocoa, ginger and turmeric are the main crops. Recently Thodupuzha has undergone a planned development keeping in mind the tourism options. It is these plantations that Jithu Joseph used for his chartbuster movie 'Drishyam.'

The house where the family lives is in Thodupuzha. The Tamil and Telugu version came back to that house for shooting these movies when they were remade in those regional languages. Here is a look of the Tamil version which Kamal Hassan makes memorable
Thodupuzha is a major destination now with Malayalam movie makers.
